In many of the gaily printed fabrics from Provence, red and gold were frequently paired. Sometimes a touch of aqua was used as a complement to the red and gold motif. Here are a few examples:

Another perennial favorite that we don't see very often nowadays is using shades of turquoise or aqua with shades of red.
